A Deering parent for Kate Snyder | Letter

A Deering parent for Kate Snyder | Letter
100%

My two sons went to Ocean Avenue Elementary School, and my younger is now a junior at Deering High School. For personal reasons, I care about how the Portland City Council attends to the schools.

But even more, I care because strong schools are fundamental to a city’s full potential. In Portland, families and property owners directly impact our schools’ ability to operate. State aid follows each child, and property taxes cover about three-quarters of the school budget. When families can’t afford to stay, the aid shrinks and the tax bill grows.

Kate Snyder knows our schools need kids to fill the halls. Her focus on housing is how we keep them here. Her budget expertise will keep our schools whole and protect resources where they’re needed most.

On Nov. 3, I’m ranking Kate Snyder first for City Council at-large. I hope other school families will too.
