Yarmouth voters approved borrowing $2 million to fund several school recreation facility projects, 2,978 to 2,663 votes, according to unofficial results from Tuesday’s election.
The Yarmouth School Department will replace the synthetic turf field and track at Yarmouth High School, which are both deteriorating. The Yarmouth Elementary School playground, which is 25 years old and challenging to repair, also will be replaced.
The outdoor play area at Harrison Middle school also will be renovated to increase accessibility and recreation opportunities.
The school department estimated the total cost of the project to be $3.14 million, but with $1.1 million already in reserve for the turf and track replacement, only $2.05 million remained to be borrowed.
For the owner of a house valued at $800,000, the average tax increase for the bond will be $56 annually.
