Mt. Ararat Eagles Dominate Opponents as Undefeated Team Prepares for Postseason
The Mt. Ararat Eagles are riding a wave of undefeated success as they gear up for a home matchup against Brunswick on Monday. Leading the Class A North division with a perfect 14-0 record, the team has cemented its position as the top seed in their conference. Their dominance extends far beyond the scoreline, stemming from a strategic overhaul initiated thirteen years ago by head coach Krista Chase.
When Chase took over the program in 2014, the field hockey team was operating in a state of uncertainty. According to Chase, the squad was not winning many games during that era. Her arrival brought a fundamental shift in approach, beginning with the establishment of a youth development track known as the Baby Eagles. This initiative created a pipeline of talent that continues to fuel the program's current success. Former players from the original cohort now serve as junior captains, bridging the gap between the foundation laid decades ago and the high-performance team seen on the ice today.
The Eagles' offensive efficiency is remarkable. Since entering the preseason, they have outscored their opponents 70-6 times, a statistic that highlights their control of the game. Notably, no opponent has managed more than a single goal throughout the season. A major milestone arrived recently when the team secured its first victory over Skowhegan in over a decade—a win that also marked Chase's 200th game as head coach.
Looking ahead to Monday's contest in Topsham, the Eagles will face Brunswick. The atmosphere suggests a continuation of the momentum, with the team observing the national anthem prior to tip-off. For the athletes, however, the immediate streak of wins serves as a catalyst for future challenges. Junior captain Kamryn Chase, reflecting on the program's origins, noted that the early work of creating the Baby Eagles youth program was essential. She emphasized the weight of the moment, stating, "We were the first preschoolers and kindergartners to come through," and expressed pride in the legacy they are building. "They’re my girls, they’re my family," she added, acknowledging the personal investment behind the team's rise. "In playoffs, we’re gonna need to be ready to see anything, ’cause teams are really gonna wanna beat us."
As the Eagles look toward the postseason, the focus remains on sustaining their unbeaten run and honoring the foundation laid by previous generations of athletes.
