Maine high‑school girls’ soccer standings remain steady after postseason, setting up potential state‑wide showdowns

The Varsity Maine girls’ soccer poll, released on Monday after a full slate of playoff games, shows the top five teams in the state still holding their positions from the previous week. Camden Hills, the Windjammers of the Cape, stayed at the pinnacle for the sixth consecutive week, while Scarborough, the Red Storm, remains firmly in second place.

The poll, which covers games played through Saturday, Oct. 31, was compiled by the Varsity Maine editorial staff and is based on points awarded for wins, draws, and other factors. The top ten teams and their point totals are:

  1. Camden Hills (9 first‑place votes) – 90 points
  2. Scarborough – 81 points
  3. Cape Elizabeth – 71 points
  4. Yarmouth – 61 points
  5. Kennebunk – 50 points
  6. John Bapst – 34 points
  7. Windham – 26 points
  8. Mt. Ararat – 24 points (tied with South Portland)
  9. Mt. Abram – 10 points

Other teams that earned votes include Maranacook (8), Bonny Eagle (6), Fort Kent (6), Presque Isle (3), and Cheverus (1).

The rankings have already set the stage for the state playoffs. Camden Hills, sitting atop the poll, will face the eighth‑seeded Mt. Ararat in the Class A North championship game. If they prevail, they will earn a berth in the Class A state championship against the South‑section winner.

Scarborough, who opened the season as the top pick in the first fall poll before slipping to second, will meet No. 5 Kennebunk in the Class A South title match. Both teams have shown why they remain in the national conversation, and the winner will join Camden Hills in the state championship round.

In the lower tier, the Class B South final pits Cape Elizabeth, the top‑ranked team in that division, against Yarmouth, the fourth‑place team. The two schools split their regular‑season encounters and have been a talking point since the season’s opening game, a match that ended in a 2‑2 draw. The winner will earn a spot in the Class B state title game.

Mt. Abram’s return to the top ten, finishing 10th by a margin of two points over Maranacook, sets up a Class C South final between the two squads. Meanwhile, John Bapst, ranked sixth, will challenge Presque Isle for the Class B North championship.

The poll’s stability after the postseason underscores the consistency of Maine’s elite programs. Camden Hills’ 90 points and unanimous first‑place vote (nine) reflect a dominant season, while Scarborough’s 81 points confirm the team’s status as a perennial contender. The remaining top five teams all finished the regular season and playoffs in the top four of their respective conferences, a testament to the depth of competitive girls’ soccer in the state.

As the state finals approach, fans will have to watch whether the top‑ranked teams can translate their regular‑season success into championship victories. For the players and coaching staffs, the current rankings provide both validation of hard work and a clear roadmap of what lies ahead.
