As a 38-year shipbuilding veteran at Bath Iron Works, I know firsthand the dedication and skill required to build the ships that defend our nation.
I appreciate Sen. Susan Collins’ efforts on behalf of Maine’s shipbuilding industry. Supporting BIW means supporting Maine workers, their families and the communities that depend on this vital industry.
Our shipyard is more than a place of employment. It’s where generations of skilled workers have taken pride in building something greater than themselves. We must invest in the next generation, providing young men and women opportunities to learn valuable skills, build rewarding careers and contribute to our nation’s security.
Stable funding, continued attention to shipbuilding and workforce development are essential to keeping BIW strong for decades to come. After 38 years in this industry, I know what is at stake. We’re not just building ships; we’re building a future for Maine, our young people and our country.
