Halloween events at Rockland Public Library, plus Daniel Tiger

Rockland Public Library Welcomes Families with Día de los Muertos Workshop, Halloween Fun, and Author Visit
Rockland, Maine – The Rockland Public Library is turning its doors into a hub of cultural celebration and literacy on Saturday, Oct. 31, and will add a second literary event on Nov. 5. The library’s program lineup features a Día de los Muertos sugar‑skull workshop, a kids’ Halloween party, and a stop on the Maine Public Literacy Tour that brings author and illustrator Stephen Costanza and the beloved PBS character Daniel Tiger to the community.
Día de los Muertos Sugar‑Skull Workshop
The Penobscot Bay Language School is returning to the library for its popular Día de los Muertos activity. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., families of all ages are invited to decorate traditional sugar skulls while learning about the holiday’s origins and its cultural significance in Mexico, Mesoamerica and beyond. Participants will sing traditional Spanish and English songs and hear stories that explain why the Día de los Muertos is celebrated as a joyous remembrance of loved ones.
The workshop is free and open to anyone who wishes to join—no registration is required. It’s a chance for the community to explore a colorful tradition and to bring home a handcrafted reminder of the day.
Kids’ Halloween Party
Later in the day, the library will host a Halloween party for children. At 2:30 p.m., children will listen to “silly Halloween stories” led by the library’s Children's Librarian Katie Drago. The program will then transition to six “monstrous crafts,” giving kids hands‑on time to create their own spooky creations. Costumes are encouraged, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The event is free and designed to give children an interactive, family‑friendly Halloween experience right in the library’s welcoming space.
Maine Public Literacy Tour: Stephen Costanza & Daniel Tiger
On Thursday, Nov. 5, the library will welcome author and illustrator Stephen Costanza—known for titles such as Mozart Finds a Melody and Noodleman the Pasta Superhero—as part of the fourth annual Maine Public Literacy Tour. At 3:30 p.m., Costanza will lead a story‑time session, followed by a meet‑and‑greet with Daniel Tiger, the friendly neighborhood mouse from the PBS series. Children and parents can also participate in Daniel Tiger‑related crafts after the author’s talk.
The event is free and open to all. The library has highlighted Costanza’s background as a frequent visitor to schools and libraries across the state, and his recognition by the Bologna Book Fair, Society of Illustrators, and the Maine Library Association.
