Electrical fire at 100 Spurwink Road forces temporary evacuation of Scarborough home

An electrical fault ignited a blaze in a second‑floor room of a two‑story colonial‑style house at 100 Spurwink Road in Scarborough early Wednesday morning. The fire was reported to the Scarborough Fire Department around 6 a.m., and the crew had the flames under control within half an hour.

Firefighters found that the blaze was contained to the single room where it started, sparing the rest of the house from damage. Five occupants—who had evacuated safely before the fire department arrived—were unharmed. One of them was examined for potential smoke inhalation, and the firefighter who had been dispatched for assistance was taken to the hospital for a brief evaluation of dehydration. He was released shortly thereafter.

Central Maine Power intervened to cut the electrical supply to the building, and the residents are unable to return home until the necessary electrical repairs are finished. The American Red Cross has also been on the scene to provide relief and support to the displaced occupants.

The incident highlights the ongoing risk of electrical fires in older homes and underscores the importance of timely power shutdowns when an electrical malfunction is suspected. No injuries were reported, and the community’s emergency responders again demonstrated their readiness to protect residents during unexpected emergencies.
