Old Orchard Beach town manager exits 2 weeks after starting

Two weeks after starting his job as Old Orchard Beach’s town manager, Timothy Pellerin has resigned. In a sentence-long letter dated June 15, Pellerin alerted the Town Council that he would be stepping down. He did not include a reason for his departure and the town has not released any further information. “There’s really nothing to say. It’s really not public information,” said Town Council Vice Chair Michael Tousignant. Pellerin was appointed in May to succeed Diana Asanza, who held the post for 14 years. Asanza announced her retirement in January and will conclude her duties July 3.  Officials did not immediately respond to messages asking when Pellerin’s last day was and how much the town will pay him. He had been hired under a two-year contract through June 1, 2028, and it’s unclear whether he faces any penalties. Pellerin was to be paid an annual salary of $142,000, according to [town records](https://www.oobmaine.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/TC-mtg-5.19.2026-Minutes.pdf). After a six-month probationary period, his salary would have increased to $150,000. The abrupt exit comes amid a statewide struggle to retain town officials, with managers in at least 25 cities and towns leaving within the last three years.  Related [Why can’t Maine towns and cities hold on to their managers?](https://www.pressherald.com/2026/05/31/why-cant-maine-towns-and-cities-hold-on-to-their-managers/) Before assuming the role in Old Orchard Beach, Pellerin served for five years as South Berwick’s town manager. He has also been a town manager for Rangeley and Harrison, director of emergency management for Lincoln County, deputy fire chief in Westbrook and a firefighter in Brunswick. After Asanza retires next month, Old Orchard Beach will operate without a town manager. No one has been tapped to assume the role full-time, or to serve as an interim manager, Tousignant said.
