Obituary: Peter Douglas Spencer

Peter Douglas “Pete” Spencer, 66, of South Paris, Passes Away
South Paris, Maine – Peter Douglas Spencer, known to friends and family as Pete, died peacefully at his home in South Paris on October 13, 2026. The 66‑year‑old, a lifelong resident of the region, left behind a legacy of quiet dedication to his work and his community.
Spencer was born in Portland on July 12, 1960, to parents Everett and Nancy (Buck) Spencer. After completing his studies at Cape Elizabeth High School in 1978, he embarked on a career with Lucas Tree Service that would span more than four decades. The company, which specializes in arboricultural services, has long relied on Spencer’s expertise and steady hand. Colleagues remember him as a dependable and meticulous professional, always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbors and fellow workers.
He is survived by six siblings—Reginald, who lives in Salem Township; Terry in Smithfield; George Gary and David, both in Buxton; Paul, also of South Paris; and Judy Allen, also of South Paris. In addition, Pete leaves a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and close friends who will feel his absence deeply.
“Pete was a steady presence in our community,” said one neighbor. “He worked hard and always had time for a conversation or a helping hand.”
Chandler Funeral Homes, located at 45 Main Street in South Paris, will oversee arrangements. The family has decided not to hold a public funeral service at this time. A full obituary and a space for sharing memories can be found on Chandler Funeral Homes’ website at www.chandlerfunerals.com.
Spencer’s life reflects the quiet strength of many of Maine’s longtime residents, whose daily labor keeps the state’s trees healthy and its communities connected. His passing is a loss to both his family and the broader South Paris area.
