Dalmon Ray Perry, 78, of Phippsburg, Dies After 78‑Year Life of Service and Community Involvement
Phippsburg, Maine — Dalmon Ray Perry, 78, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026. The former Army sergeant, who had spent nearly four decades contributing to the state’s public service, was survived by a wide circle of family, friends and pets.
Born in Saco on July 29, 1948, to Arthur and Olive Perry, Dalmon grew up in Bath where he attended Morse High School. He was a standout athlete, lettering in basketball and track and holding the school’s high‑jump record for several years after graduation.
After high school, illness halted his plans to attend the University of South Maine. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he was selected for language training in California and learned Mandarin. A motorcycle accident ended that stint, but Perry’s service continued in Labrador and Vietnam, culminating in an honorable discharge in 1972 as a sergeant.
Following his military career, Perry worked for various construction firms, served as a driver for the USM women’s basketball team, and operated the school bus in Harpswell. He spent 18 years supervising the post‑office operations at the Southern Portland distribution center. A longtime enthusiast of outdoor pursuits, he enjoyed golfing, mowing greens at the Bath Country Club and Mere Creek, and, during the winter, traveling to California to play the sport with his girlfriend on a Harley.
Perry also had a passion for bodybuilding, winning numerous competitions, and a love for reading, especially as he grew older. He and his girlfriend played games such as Yahtzee and Phase 10, and he was a devoted owner of two Boston Terriers, Oreo and Jake.
His son, Ian, and his wife Samantha live in Phoenix, Arizona. A sister named Linda and a girlfriend, also named Linda, survive him, along with many cousins and the beloved dogs.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary’s Church of All Saints Parish, 144 Lincoln Street, Bath, on Friday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be available at Desmond Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. Perry will receive a burial with military honors at Oak Grove Cemetery, middle‑school entrance, Bath. The family invites friends and neighbors to attend the Mass and a fellowship gathering afterward for refreshments and remembrance.
In lieu of flowers, family members are encouraged to make a donation to the local Humane Society in Dalmon’s honor, reflecting his lifelong affection for animals. Condolences and messages of support can be shared on the Desmond Funeral Home website.
