New Italian restaurant coming to Wells

New Italian restaurant coming to Wells
100%

Veteran Maine restaurateurs plan to open an Italian restaurant in Wells this November.

Posta is slated to open by mid-November at 60 Mile Road, according to co-owner Ian Miller. The space had briefly hosted Battery Steele Kitchen + Bar, and was also the longtime home of Varano’s Ristorante Italiano.

“We haven’t had an iteration of an Italian restaurant in Wells since Varano’s closed (about four years ago),” said Miller. “We felt it fitting to revive that in that building to fit the need of the area.”

Miller and his partner, Morey Highbarger, own and operate seven other Maine restaurants, including Cape Neddick Lobster Pound, three locations of Pepper’s Landing, and Signal in Kennebunk. Miller said Posta is named for a hotel in Livorno, Italy, that Highbarger’s family used to run.

Posta will be a traditional American red sauce-style Italian restaurant, with a menu featuring items like chicken parmesan, chicken piccata, salmon puttanesca, meatballs, T-bone steak, cacio e pepe pasta, lasagna, linguine and clams and build-your-own pasta dishes. Downstairs, in a section they refer to as The Grotto, the restaurant will offer subs, salads and Neapolitan-style pizzas with toppings like pepperoni cups with hot honey, and Hawaiian-style with spicy capicola.

Posta will have a full bar serving cocktails, 10 draft beers and an Italian-leaning wine list. Posta has seating for about 100, with another 40 seats on the downstairs Grotto level.

The restaurant will be open seven days. The Grotto will be open from 11:30 a.m. until 9 p.m., while Posta will open 4-9 p.m.
