Maine must insist on its independence | Letter

Maine is a bastion of independent thinkers and doers. Always has been, always will be. During this election, a “Star Wars” cantina of megadonors, CEOs and dark money bundlers is pumping cash into Sen. Susan Collins’ campaign. Ninety-three percent of her contributions are from out-of-state. These “donors” want to tell Mainers how to vote.

Do Down East lobstermen need a New Jersey billionaire’s advice on hauling a line? Do Augusta teachers need a Silicon Valley tech bro’s lesson plan? Do Portland nurses need directives from New York financiers?

We can read the ballot. We know what to do.

I’m voting for the candidate who answers to Maine, not Manhattan. I’m voting for Troy Jackson.
