Letter to the Editor Endorses Kate Snyder for Portland City Council At‑Large
PORTLAND – A local resident and former School Board colleague of former mayor Kate Snyder wrote a letter to the editor in March 2026, urging voters to support Snyder’s campaign for an at‑large seat on the Portland City Council.
In the letter, Peter Eglinton, who lives in Portland, said, “I enthusiastically support Kate Snyder for Portland City Council at‑large.” He added that he has known Snyder for more than two decades, including their time serving together on the Portland School Board.
Eglinton highlighted Snyder’s tenure on the School Board and her subsequent service on the city’s Finance Committee. He noted that, as chair of that committee, she “asked tough questions while advocating for a strong school system.” According to the letter, her insistence on transparency and fiscal prudence helped secure unanimous budget support for the city during difficult economic conditions.
The writer also praised Snyder’s leadership as the former mayor, who served the city from 2019 to 2023. He described her as organized, thoughtful, and a team player who “has routinely facilitated agreement on controversial issues.” Eglinton emphasized Snyder’s commitment to students and her role in leading the city’s board and superintendent through “challenging academic, facility and financial issues.” He credited her with driving comprehensive, multi‑year planning for the school system.
Eglinton closed the letter by expressing personal gratitude for Snyder’s vision, energy, and dedication to Portland. He concluded that his endorsement reflects the qualities he believes are essential for the city’s future.
Snyder’s campaign has been active in promoting her record of public service, and she is running for an at‑large seat in the upcoming municipal election. The letter, published in the city’s local press, is one of several endorsements that have appeared as voters prepare for the March 2026 election.
