Brunswick interfaith council to host community sing

All‑Faith Community Sing to Gather Brunswick on Election Eve
Brunswick, ME — The Brunswick Area Interfaith Council (BAIC) is inviting residents to a free, pre‑election gathering titled “We the People Sing: All Voices Matter – A Pre‑Election Community Sing” on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 3:30 p.m. The event will take place at the gazebo on the Brunswick Mall.
The program will feature a mix of familiar and newly selected songs, along with readings that emphasize the democratic promise that every person can participate and that all voices are valued. Participants are encouraged to bring a small light—such as a candle or lantern—to use once the first day of daylight‑saving time darkens the venue. A chair may also be brought if needed. Hot chocolate will be served for attendees.
“We gather in community because we need one another — all of us,” said Rev. Kharma Amos of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick, one of the event’s song leaders. “Singing together helps us connect with our bodies and with the ever‑richer harmonies that emerge when we each simply sing our part. This gathering is not designed for professional voices, nor is it intended to be a polished performance; rather, it is an invitation to be real and rooted in the knowledge that every voice in our democracy matters.”
Song leaders from various faith traditions will introduce the pieces and provide lyric sheets, making the event accessible to anyone regardless of singing experience. The goal, according to BAIC, is to “connect, inspire, and unite us in the days just before the election.”
BAIC is a non‑sectarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering understanding, respect, and cooperation among the diverse faith traditions in the Brunswick area. The council works to promote the spiritual, moral, and social welfare of the broader community.
The event is open to all residents of Brunswick and surrounding towns. For more information, contact BAIC at 207‑240‑0874 or via email at info@baic.org.
