Azteca Mexican Restaurant opens in South Portland

The owners of Tacos La Poblanita in the Maine Mall recently opened a Mexican restaurant in South Portland.
Azteca Mexican Restaurant launched at 1422 Broadway last Thursday. The 36-seat space had formerly been the Jamaican restaurant Caribbean Taste.
Co-owners Jamie Rodriguez and Karina Contreras previously owned a brick-and-mortar version of Tacos La Poblanita in Westbrook, though it closed last year. Rodriguez said it was their dream to open a full restaurant again.
Azteca offers Mexican dishes like like enchiladas verdes and rojas, tamales, burritos, tacos and huaraches. The restaurant’s bar serves beer and Mexican-style cocktails like margaritas, micheladas and mojitos.
Azteca is open Monday, Wednesday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Thursday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
