Appalled by tactics of Parents’ Rights in Education Maine | Letter

It seems that we have, yet again, another story about Allen Sarvinas and Parents’ Rights in Education harassing high school girls (“Facebook pages circulate post falsely implying 2 Westbrook student-athletes are trans,” Oct. 13).
Having watched what happened in Greely after Rep. Laurel Libby’s online attacks against a single high school athlete, I want to know why there has been no accountability for the despicable behavior people like Sarvinas introduce into the community.
Men who support using minors’ photos online, without consent, with the intent to harass them for their appearance (regardless of transgender status) should be facing more than bad press; they should face consequences. Sarvinas’ lack of apology alone is enough to see that these kids and their families deserve accountability.
Many parents around the state would be very interested in a story that shows us what the state is doing (or not doing) to put a stop to the behavior of this and other organizations that participate in this behavior.
Hopefully parents and athletes in Maine will see some answers before more kids are harmed by this disgusting interest group.
