Researchers are asking for the public’s help locating an uncrewed vessel that was monitoring a harmful algal bloom in the Gulf of Maine.
The vessel, a SeaTrac USV, lost contact with its project team on Oct. 12. It was about 30 miles southeast of Frenchman Bay at the time, according to a notice from the Northeastern Regional Association of Coastal Ocean Observing Systems that was shared by the Maine Lobstermen’s Association.
The research organization is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the vessel’s recovery.

The vessel is yellow with markings that read “uncrewed surface vehicle” on the stern and “SeaTrac” on the bow.
The notice encourages anyone who spots the vessel to report it, rather than attempt to recover it, for safety reasons. Sightings can be reported to Mike Brosnahan at [email protected] or 508-289-3633.
