Two people were injured in an early morning fire at a home in Harpswell, according to officials.
Several local fire departments responded to the structure fire on Smokehouse Road around 4:30 a.m. Thursday, said David Mercier, Harpswell Neck Fire and Rescue chief.
The home was fully engulfed by the time first responders arrived, Mercier said.
Two occupants were injured while trying to escape the home, Maine State Police said in an update Thursday afternoon. They were taken to the hospital and their injuries were non-life threatening.
Two other occupants and their two dogs were unharmed in the fire, Mercier said.
The fire took a few hours to extinguish and the home was a total loss, he said.
Mercier added that, while responding, a fire hydrant ran dry due to drought conditions and crews had to connect to another.
Investigators from the state Fire Marshals Office also responded to the scene and are investigating the cause of the fire.
