Charlotte Flair Rings In Panthers Game in Home City

Charlotte, N.C. – Charlotte Flair made a surprise appearance at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday night, just before the Carolina Panthers faced the Detroit Lions in Week 4 of the NFL season. The 34‑year‑old WWE star, who was born and raised in Charlotte, stepped out of the tunnel to a roar from the crowd, delivered her trademark “Woo!” and picked up the official Panthers drum to hit the beat.

The Panthers, who play their home games at Bank of America Stadium, are looking to rebound from a season of ups and downs. The Lions, who will return to Charlotte on Sunday night, have been strong in the NFC, while the Panthers hope to use the energy from a local star to lift the team’s performance.

Flair is a native of Charlotte and attended the city’s high‑school, where she was a two‑time state volleyball champion and team captain. She began training with WWE in 2012 and made her in‑ring debut in the company’s developmental territory, NXT, the following year. Over the years she has amassed a record 14 world championship titles, two NXT Women’s titles, two tag‑team championships, and two wins in the Women’s Royal Rumble. Her accomplishments have earned her the distinction of fourth‑overall Women’s Grand Slam champion and fifth‑overall Women’s Triple Crown champion.

In a 2022 interview on “The Ringer Wrestling Show,” Flair explained that her ring name reflects her family’s ties to Charlotte. She also mentioned that she had pitched the idea of using the name Elizabeth Reid to honor legendary valet Miss Elizabeth, a nod to her brother’s influence in wrestling.

While the appearance was primarily a promotional effort, fans in the stadium described the moment as “electric” and “inspiring.” The Panthers’ head coach said the team appreciates the local celebrity’s support and hopes the enthusiasm carries into the game. The Lions’ coach, meanwhile, noted that the Panthers’ fans “always bring a lot of energy to the field.”

Flair’s visit marked a crossover between professional wrestling and mainstream sports in her hometown. She has long been known for her athleticism, charisma, and connection to the city, and her appearance at the Panthers game reinforced her status as a local icon.

The Panthers will look to leverage the local excitement as they take on the Lions in the final moments of the season. The game, which is scheduled to start at 7:15 p.m. local time, is expected to draw a full house of Charlotte fans, many of whom were hoping to see their hometown wrestling legend in action.
