WWE's Rey Mysterio reflects on Triplemania involvement, says he's unfazed going into match with 7-foot-3 giant

Rey Mysterio, now the general manager of AAA, will step into the ring at Triplemania 34 Night 1 to face the towering Omos in a bout that carries personal and professional stakes. The match, set for Friday night at the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas, will determine Omos’s future with the promotion: a loss for Mysterio would reinstate the 7‑foot‑3 giant, while a victory would bar him from competing in AAA again.
Mysterio’s connection to AAA runs deep. He debuted under the name Rey Misterio Jr. at the very first Triplemania event in 1993, teaming with Volador and Misterioso against the trio known as Los Destrictors. More than three decades later, he returns to the same stage—not as a novice but as the organization’s top executive. “It’s a very special moment for me in so many ways,” Mysterio said, noting that AAA opened the doors for his career and that he was present at the inaugural Triplemania. “To see this come full circle and to be in the position I’m at now has been an amazing ride.”
The feud with Omos flared after the giant attacked Mysterio’s ally Galeno and later assaulted Mysterio himself at an AAA show in August. Omos appeared as a paid spectator at Ola de Color and, with the assistance of Dominik Mysterio, launched another assault. In response, Mysterio suspended Omos, a decision that set up the upcoming showdown. “I’ve felt his power. Very strong dude. Very intimidating,” Mysterio admitted, but he added that the experience does not frighten him. “I’ve seen giants before. From the moment I started training at eight years old, I was the smallest kid in the class. I’ve always been in the ring with bigger opponents, so it doesn’t faze me. I’m motivated, I’m antsy to step in the ring, and I’m looking forward to tonight.”
As AAA’s general manager, Mysterio says he must send a clear message about authority. “I need to make a statement that no superstar or Luchador in the AAA locker room is going to try to intimidate me as the GM,” he explained. “They have to know their boundaries, respect authority, and not step over those lines. In this case, that’s what I had to do for Omos to respect some authority.”
Triplemania 34 will be a historic two‑night affair. Night 1 takes place in Las Vegas, while Night 2 is scheduled for Sunday at Arena CDMX in Mexico City. Both events begin at 10 p.m. ET and will be streamed on YouTube. The outcome of Friday’s main event could reshape the roster dynamics of AAA and close a chapter that began more than thirty years ago when a young Rey Misterio Jr. first stepped into the Triplemania spotlight.
