A fatal head‑on collision on Route 11 in Poland, Maine, left a 40‑year‑old woman dead and a 63‑year‑old Ohio driver with minor injuries. The crash, which occurred on Sunday, involved a 2026 Toyota Camry traveling northbound that veered into the southbound lane and struck a 2019 Ram pickup truck that was towing a camper.

Emergency crews arrived quickly, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed. The Ohioan, who was traveling in the pickup, suffered only minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

The incident took place in the 700 block of Route 11—known locally as Bakerstown Road—between the intersection of Main Street and the rail line that runs through the town. Authorities closed the road for several hours to allow rescuers to clear the wreckage and investigate the crash. Traffic was later rerouted through a nearby bypass while investigators continued to review the scene.

The sheriff’s office is keeping the victim’s name confidential pending notification of her family. “We are continuing our investigation and will release additional information as it becomes available,” the office said in a statement to local media.

The investigation is ongoing, and state highway officials have not released any preliminary findings on what caused the driver to cross into oncoming traffic. The accident has prompted a review of traffic patterns in the area, and officials are urging drivers to exercise caution on Route 11 during the evening commute.

For now, the community mourns a life cut short in a sudden collision, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
