Bangor School Evacuated After False Threat, Police Confirm Safety Measures Were “Abundant of Caution”

BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor school was temporarily emptied of students and staff after a threat was reported to the city’s police department. The Bangor Police Department later determined that the threat was a hoax, confirming that the evacuation was a precautionary measure.

The police said the school was “evacuated out of an abundance of caution” after the threat was received. While the specific details of the threat were not disclosed, officials indicated that the police followed standard protocols for potential school safety incidents. An investigation into the source of the threat revealed no credible evidence of a real danger.

“Safety is our top priority, and we err on the side of caution when we receive any indication of possible harm,” the department said. “In this case, the threat did not hold up under scrutiny, and we are relieved that no actual danger was present.”

The school was reopened the same day after the police confirmed the threat was false. Students returned to their classes, and the school administration expressed relief that the situation had been resolved without incident.

Local residents and parents expressed gratitude for the swift response by the police. “I’m glad the school was shut down for safety, even though it turned out to be a fake,” said a parent who asked to remain anonymous. “We just want to know that the city is prepared to act if something real happens.”

The Bangor Police Department has urged anyone who encounters suspicious activity near schools to report it immediately. “We take every report seriously, and we are committed to keeping our schools and community safe,” the department added.

No injuries or arrests were reported, and the incident has been closed after the threat’s origin was identified as a false alarm. The school’s administrators have thanked the police for their professionalism and quick action in what could have been a more serious scenario.
