When it comes to ICE, let’s rephrase | Letter

I am advocating for a significant change in our use of the phrase “This is not who we are,” often quoted by well-meaning officials in moments like the recent ICE murders. Sadly, this is who we’ve become and we need to face it.
Perhaps that is an appropriate alternative. Others to consider:
- “This is not who I want us to be…”
- “This should not be who we are, but …”
- “Is this who you want us to be?”
