When can we expect to solve Maine’s pharmacy shortage? | Letter
100%

I read with interest the piece regarding so-called pharmacy deserts (“Missed deadline stalls access to remote pharmacies in Maine,” July 7). I equate this type of situation to a similar event that took place back in the 1950s in South Portland.

Moving to the state at that time, our family lived adjacent to an infamous five-way intersection that was notorious for vehicle accidents. Continued requests were made in the ensuing years for traffic lights. It wasn’t until a prominent family’s loved one was killed at that intersection that traffic lights appeared almost instantly.

It would be my thought that this is what may have to take place in order to remedy this lack of pharmacy availability or alternatives in the remote areas of Maine.
