Westbrook man charged with manslaughter after fatal Windham crash

Westbrook Man Charged with Manslaughter in Windham Motorcycle Crash
A Westbrook resident was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including manslaughter, after a vehicle collision on Route 302 in Windham left a motorcyclist dead. The crash occurred Wednesday night around 7:05 p.m. and involved a pickup truck, a minivan, and an on‑coming motorcycle.
Chad Jordan, 32, was driving a pickup truck southbound on Route 302 when it struck a minivan heading north at approximately the same time. The pickup then veered into the opposite lane and struck an on‑coming motorcycle. Police say the motorcycle erupted into flames on impact, and the rider was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the rider’s name.
Jordan was initially charged with operating under the influence (OUI) after the incident. Windham police released a statement on Friday announcing that he now faces additional charges: manslaughter, aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, OUI that caused the death of another person, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon that includes prior offenses, and aggravated criminal mischief. The driver is being held at Cumberland County Jail while the investigation continues.
Windham Police Superintendent Michael O’Donnell said the crash “is still under investigation” and urged anyone with information to come forward. The investigation is focused on determining the extent of Jordan’s impairment and the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal collision.
The case highlights the ongoing concern over impaired driving in Maine. According to the Maine Department of Transportation, alcohol‑related crashes account for a significant portion of traffic fatalities in the state.
Jordan’s attorney has not yet commented on the charges or the status of the case. No additional information has been released about the motorcyclist’s identity or the circumstances of the crash beyond what has been publicly reported.
