Voters widely approved the Wells-Ogunquit Community School District’s $33.4 million budget proposal Tuesday.

The budget passed with 2,749 votes, or 82% of total votes, while 548 rejected it between the two towns, according to unofficial results.

In total, 3,333 voters cast ballots on the budget.

The approved budget is a 2.4% increase from last year and is expected to require a small tax increase in both towns.

District officials said the budget increase will cover staff raises and expected benefit rate hikes.

The new budget will take effect July 1, prior to the start of the new school year.
