ARLINGTON, Va. — A police officer with the Arlington County Police Department has been arrested and charged with malicious wounding following an investigation into an alleged assault that occurred last month, authorities confirmed Friday.

Vincent Baglio, 31, was taken into custody this week after detectives reviewed allegations that he physically assaulted a person he knew inside a residence on May 24, according to a department statement. The incident was first reported to police on June 30.

Baglio, who joined the department in June 2024, has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of both the criminal investigation and an internal administrative review, officials said.

Arlington County Police Chief Andy Penn addressed the allegations in a statement Friday, saying the conduct described in the case does not reflect the department's core values.

"The serious criminal allegations in this case represent conduct that is wholly unacceptable and fundamentally inconsistent with the values, standards and responsibilities of our agency," Penn said. "Such actions are in direct contradiction to the oath we take and the professional expectations we place on every law enforcement officer."

Penn emphasized that the department is committed to conducting thorough investigations and holding officers accountable based on the findings.

"We remain steadfast in our commitment to holding ourselves accountable and taking appropriate action based on the findings of those investigations," he added.

Investigators said the alleged assault involved threats made against the victim during the incident. Further details about the circumstances surrounding the case have not been released pending the ongoing investigation.

The case remains under investigation by Arlington County detectives.
