A fire broke out on the roof and top floor of a commercial building at 14 Libby Avenue in Lewiston on Monday night, prompting a swift response from the city’s fire department and a subsequent police investigation.

Firefighters were first on the scene at roughly 7:15 p.m., according to Lewiston Fire Chief Mark Caron. They worked to extinguish the blaze while the building’s upper levels remained smoldering. The fire was contained, but investigators have not yet determined the cause.

While the fire crews battled the flames, Lewiston police officers canvassed the surrounding area. The police operation included a search of the nearby woods, which was aided by an overhead drone.
