Victim identified in Portland homicide near Tukey’s Bridge as suspect appears in court

A 21-year-old Portland resident died after an altercation with a man near Tukey’s Bridge on Wednesday evening, according to police.
The victim, whom police identified Friday as Julian Nadeau, was walking with friends along a path near the bridge when they were approached by a man on a bicycle. A “physical altercation occurred,” and the man left the area moments later, according to the police department.
Officials in the police department and Office of Chief Medical Examiner have declined to release Nadeau’s cause of death. A police spokesperson did not respond to questions Friday seeking details about the altercation.

Officers arrived to the area just before 10 p.m. to find Nadeau lying next to the walking path in a southbound breakdown lane of Interstate 295 near Exit 8. Nadeau, also known as Juju, was taken to Maine Medical Center and later pronounced dead.
Glen Rodney, 58, of Portland, has been arrested and charged with murder in Nadeau’s death. He appeared in Cumberland County Superior Court on Friday afternoon, where District Court Judge Peter Darvin scheduled a bail hearing for Tuesday.

Rodney, who stood handcuffed in a jail jumpsuit, spoke only to acknowledge that he understood the charge against him.
Jail logs show that Rodney was booked at the Cumberland County Jail around 5 a.m. Thursday. He will remain there without bail pending next week’s court proceeding, Darvin said during the hearing Friday.
