Vice President JD Vance to visit Maine on Monday
Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to come to Maine on Monday.
Vance will be in Brewer to deliver remarks at a manufacturing facility, the White House said in a news release Thursday evening. WMTW, citing the Office of the Vice President, reported that Vance will speak at CompoTech, a defense and composites manufacturer.
The White House did not provide more details about the visit in its news release, and the vice president’s office did not immediately reply to an inquiry for more information Thursday evening.
A spokesperson for the Maine Republican Party did not immediately reply on Thursday night to inquiries for comment and more information.
A Maine Democratic Party spokesperson said Vance was coming “to Maine to pitch the Trump administration’s failing agenda.”
The vice president was in Maine in May for a rally at Bangor International Airport, where he spoke to about 400 attendees, largely about Medicaid fraud. Vance repeatedly blamed immigrants who are in the country illegally for widespread fraud schemes in places like Minnesota, and also blasted Democratic Gov. Janet Mills for not working more cooperatively to root out suspected fraud in Maine.
Democrats pushed back against Vance’s remarks, including Mills, who called it “a weak attempt to distract from the Trump administration’s failing agenda.” A local progressive group organized a protest outside the event.
