Vetting of ICE agent in Biddeford shooting is part of investigation, Trump official says

Whether the federal immigration agent involved in the fatal shooting of a man in Biddeford this month was properly vetted by the agency is part of an ongoing investigation in the case, a top Trump administration official told CNN Sunday.
David Brouillette’s two ex-wives have said he exhibited violent and abusive behavior, and he was also ordered by a judge at one point to temporarily relinquish firearms, according to several media outlets. If the accusations are true, then he “should not have cleared vetting,” said Tom Homan, the Trump administration’s border czar, during an appearance on the network’s “State of the Union.”

Homan said the vetting process for Brouillette is part of the ongoing investigation into the shooting.
“If that was factual, he would have almost an impossible time to pass vetting,” Homan said.
“Certainly, if this person had that type of history, there would have been a vetting issue and it should have been brought to the attention of those who make those decisions,” he added.
Federal officials are also reviewing whether the training ICE agents receive is sufficient in response to the shooting, Homan said.

Brouillette has been identified by family members as the agent who shot and killed Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, a 25-year-old Colombian man whom officials have said was not the target of an arrest warrant that ICE agents were attempting to execute on July 13.
Ashley Brouillette, Brouillette’s ex-wife, described her ex-husband’s behavior as abusive during and after their marriage. In a voicemail that she said was left by David Brouillette last fall, he said she should have her “(expletive) throat cut,” among other disparaging remarks.

His second ex-wife, Lucinda Brouillette, has accused him of kicking down her door and said he routinely and falsely accused her of having substance abuse issues, to attack her credibility in court.
David Brouillette raised similar allegations against his second ex-wife in court records, accusing her of being a poor parent, and claiming she was physically and verbally abusive to their children.
