High‑School Football Highlights: Portland, Winslow, and the Rest of Maine Deliver a Night of Big‑Time Play

Friday, September 18, 2026 – Friday’s slate of high‑school football games ran from the bright lights of Portland’s Bulldog Stadium to the humble fields in rural Maine, with a dozen schools posting decisive victories and a handful of individual performances that will be talked about for the rest of the season.

Portland Bulldogs 39, Windham 13

The Bulldogs’ offense proved unstoppable in the first half, piling up 219 rushing yards on 23 carries by senior running back Alex Martin, who also found the end zone twice. Portland’s defense kept Windham’s offense in check, forcing only six points in the second half. The 39‑point win marks the Bulldogs’ sixth straight victory and keeps the top spot in the state standings.

Winslow Black Raiders 46, Oak Hill 6

Winslow’s offensive line cracked open the Oak Hill backfield early, allowing Michael Loubier to rush for 196 yards and four touchdowns on a mere seven carries. Loubier’s explosive 98‑yard run capped a dominant performance that kept the Raiders’ opponents flat‑footed for the entire game. Winslow’s defense was equally dominant, shutting out the Hill’s offense and holding them to a single field goal.

Spruce Mountain Phoenix 46, Lake Region 14

Spruce Mountain’s dual‑threat quarterback Owen Kelvey led the Phoenix to a comfortable win with 293 total yards. Kelvey racked up 184 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries, and he also added a 109‑yard receiving performance, including a touchdown, on three passes. The Phoenix’s defense forced a turnover in the fourth quarter that sealed the victory.

Maranacook Black Bears 54, Dexter 16

Josh Crosby’s explosive debut at running back earned him a 245‑yard, three‑touchdown performance, and he added a passing touchdown of his own. Crosby also returned a 78‑yard punt for a score and finished with eight tackles (six solo). The Bears’ defense held Dexter to just 16 points while Crosby’s 10‑carry run for 245 yards gave the Bears an early lead that they never relinquished.

Lawrence Bulldogs 29, Skowhegan 13

Keegan Littlefield’s 212‑yard, two‑touchdown run helped keep the Bulldogs ahead from the start. Littlefield carried the ball 21 times, driving the Bulldogs to a comfortable win over Skowhegan. Lawrence’s defense forced a key interception in the fourth quarter to preserve the victory.

Noble Knights 48, Sanford 8

Tristan Miniutti’s 149‑yard, two‑touchdown run gave the Knights a comfortable cushion, while a sack and 10 tackles (eight solo, one for loss) from the same player helped the defense keep Sanford from mounting a comeback. Noble’s offense also contributed a 20‑yard touchdown run by the junior running back, cementing the Knights’ win.

Thornton Golden Trojans 49, Bedford (NH) 7

Carter Moody’s 99‑yard interception return for a touchdown was the highlight of the Trojans’ dominant 49‑point performance. Moody also recorded ten tackles (eight solo) on the defensive side of the ball. The Trojans’ balanced attack was a clear out‑classing of the New Hampshire visitors.

Greely Rangers 33, Wells 14

Luke Piper’s four‑touchdown run, combined with a passing touchdown of his own, powered the Rangers to a comfortable win. The offense also gained 200 yards rushing on 40 carries, while the defense held Wells to just 14 points.

Winthrop Ramblers 38, Madison 8

Carter Rand’s 141‑yard, four‑touchdown run and an interception were the key components of the Ramblers’ dominant victory. The Rams’ offense also drove 60 yards in the final quarter to seal the win.

Oxford Hills Vikings 28, Edward Little 7

Keegan Ridley’s 198‑yard, 24‑carry performance powered the Vikings to a decisive 28‑point victory. The Vikings’ defense forced two turnovers and held Edward Little to a single field goal.

Nokomis Warriors 42, Brewer 8

Stephone Ross’s 191‑yard, one‑touchdown run and his defensive play—two sacks, three tackles for loss, a fumble recovery—helped the Warriors dominate Brewer. The Warriors’ offense also added 120 yards rushing on 35 carries.

Why It Matters

These games set the tone for the season, with several teams—Portland, Winslow, and Spruce Mountain—showing that they are serious contenders for the state title. The performances of individual players such as Alex Martin, Michael Loubier, and Owen Kelvey hint at future stars who may draw attention from colleges across the region.

With the fall season still in its early stages, the high‑school football community can look forward to more explosive play, tight defenses, and the occasional surprising upset as teams continue to battle for top spots in their respective conferences.
