Valerie Adams should be Cumberland County’s DA nominee | Letter

I’m a Democratic voter, and I encourage others to choose Valerie Adams as the Democratic nominee for Cumberland County district attorney over incumbent Jacqueline Sartoris.
A May 26 Press Herald report cited Adams’ claim that Sartoris “is often unavailable to her staff and the public.” I contacted Sartoris’ office multiple times regarding gun-related disorderly conduct in our town, a Class E crime. When Sartoris eventually responded, she declined to intervene. I found that shocking, given that she once led the Brunswick chapter of Moms Demand Action.
I wrote to Valerie Adams for her perspective. Understandably, she couldn’t give a complete answer without knowing all the facts, but Adams’ response showed more thoughtfulness than the one from Sartoris. And she responded in less than a day.
Sartoris calls herself a progressive, but a progressive unwilling to use her authority is of limited usefulness. Please join me in voting for change.
