Flight attendant saves baby on United flight, earns praise from passengers and airline

A United Airlines flight from Newark, New Jersey, to Grand Rapids, Michigan, was interrupted not by turbulence or a medical emergency, but by a heart‑warming act of quick thinking that drew attention from a social‑media user and the airline’s management team.

During flight 3486, a mother who was visibly exhausted fell asleep while holding her infant. According to a post on Instagram by passenger John Frehse, the baby began to slip from the mother’s lap. Flight attendant Monique Harris, who works for Republic Airways‑operated United flights, sprang into action. “Monique sprung into action and caught the child,” Frehse wrote. He added that the attendant then told the mother to go back to sleep, offering to hold the baby so the weary parent could rest.

Frehse praised the attendant in his caption, “United should be very proud,” and noted that the new mother had fallen asleep “when her baby was about to fall out of her lap.” He also called Harris an “A+ employee” and urged others to “take note!!!”

Harris replied to the post in the comments, saying she was moved by the attention. “I’m in tears,” she wrote. “I never do anything for recognition.” She added, “I had no idea that being my normal natural self would grow into such a priceless moment,” and thanked Frehse and others for their comments.

The airline’s parent company, Republic Airways, issued an email to Fox News Digital commending Harris. “We agree with all the positive comments I saw on the post: Monique is an extraordinary colleague and flight attendant!” the carrier said. The company also added, “Such a great story! We are proud to have Monique on our team.”

United Airlines acknowledged the post with a teary‑eyed emoji in a brief response on the airline’s social‑media account.

The incident, captured in a photo that Frehse shared showing Harris holding the baby, highlights the often‑unseen vigilance of cabin crew and the positive impact they can have on a passenger’s journey. While the flight itself was routine, the moment has resonated with many online, underscoring the importance of attentive service in commercial aviation.
