Uninvited woman enters Kamala Harris' Malibu property prompting sheriff response: reports

A Malibu Home Invaded, But No One Was Arrested
On Friday night, law‑enforcement officers from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were called to the $8 million residence that former Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, purchased in January of last year. The call was triggered when an unidentified woman tried to enter the house twice, first after being dropped off by an Uber and later again after midnight, prompting Harris’s private security team to contact the sheriff’s office.
According to an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the woman was initially met by security personnel who told her she could not enter the property. When she returned later in the evening, she was again denied access. The security team, concerned about the repeated trespassing, notified the sheriff’s department after 10 p.m. The deputies responded promptly but the woman was not arrested or detained at the scene.
Lt. Jason Duron, a watch commander at the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff’s station, told reporters that “we are stepping up patrols of the property to be safe.” His comments came as the deputies reviewed the incident and coordinated with the Harris security detail. While the woman was never taken into custody, the rapid response helped prevent any potential escalation.
Harris’s spokesperson, Eduardo Negrón, offered a statement to The Times. “Last night, security personnel stopped an individual who illegally entered Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff’s property before the individual reached the home. They are grateful to the security and law‑enforcement personnel who responded swiftly,” Negrón said. He added that neither Harris nor Emhoff were at home when the incident occurred.
The property, located in Malibu’s affluent Westside, sits on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Harris and Emhoff have called the house their “ritzy” residence, which they bought for $8 million in the first quarter of 2024. The former California District Attorney, Attorney General, and U.S. Senator now living in the home, is a native of the state and had previously served in high‑profile roles before joining the Biden administration’s ticket as Vice President.
The security detail that protected Harris for most of her vice‑presidency tenure was cut a year ago when President Donald Trump revoked the Secret Service protection for the former Vice President. The revocation followed a decision by President Joe Biden, who extended the standard six‑month period that typically applies to former vice presidents. Biden’s extension was in line with the policy adopted in 2022 for former Presidents, and it marked a departure from the routine six‑month limit.
Although no arrests were made at the scene, the incident has prompted the Harris camp to review security protocols at the Malibu home. The couple’s spokesperson emphasized that the security team was quick to act and that the swift response of the sheriff’s deputies “helped ensure the safety of the property.”
In a broader context, the incident came just a few weeks after a separate burglary that garnered national attention. In 2022, a man broke into former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco home, attacking Pelosi’s husband with a hammer. That assailant was later sentenced to life in prison without parole. While the motives of the Malibu trespasser remain unknown, officials are treating the event as a serious threat to the former Vice‑President’s safety.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office has not released additional details on the woman’s identity or the reason for her repeated attempts to enter the house. Neither have Harris’s staff. The lack of arrest suggests that the authorities may be continuing a more thorough investigation, potentially involving surveillance footage or other evidence that could identify the intruder.
In the meantime, Harris’s security team remains on high alert. Lt. Duron’s statement about increased patrols underscores a commitment to keeping the former Vice President and her family safe, especially given the high-profile nature of Harris’s public office and the attention she continues to receive.
The incident serves as a reminder of the heightened security concerns facing former national leaders in the United States. While no one was harmed and the property remained unharmed, the rapid response of the sheriff’s deputies and Harris’s private security detail ensured that the situation was contained before it could develop into a more serious incident.
