President Donald Trump, still campaigning for the 2026 midterm elections, suggested he might visit Maine during an interview with reporters on Monday, March 25, before heading to Nebraska for a campaign event.
"I don’t know about Maine," Trump told the press, "I think we’re going to Maine, too, but I’m going to Michigan in about a week and a half." The statement came as Trump’s team is outlining a whirlwind tour that could include at least ten states in the lead‑up to the elections.
Sen. Susan Collins’ office, which was approached for comment, said it had no information about a planned visit. “The office is unaware of any plans for Trump to come to Maine,” a spokesperson for the Republican senator said, and they directed the reporter to contact the White House for more information.
When asked whether any official itinerary was being drafted, a White House spokesperson was unable to confirm details and referred the question to the Republican National Committee (RNC). The RNC has not yet responded to a request for comment.
Earlier this year, a Politico report noted that Trump will be traveling to at least ten states ahead of the midterms, targeting traditional swing regions. Maine was not listed among those destinations at that time, though the president’s remarks leave the door open for a potential stop.
The potential trip is part of a broader strategy to rally support in key battlegrounds as the 2026 election cycle heats up. Whether or not a Maine visit materializes, the president’s candid remarks underscore his intent to keep the state on his radar while he canvasses other territories.
