Trump administration too lax on guns, gun safety | Letter

During my lifetime, driving has become safer and safer.
Seat belts, then lap belts and airbags. Newer cars now have drowsiness detection, blind-spot monitors, lane centering assistance and adaptive cruise control. Roads have rumble strips and streets have raised crossings. The list of safety measures goes on.
It used to be that motor vehicle accidents were the leading cause of traumatic deaths in this country. Today, guns are more lethal than cars. So why is the current administration doing its best to thwart gun safety measures?
Funding for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has decreased. Handguns can now be purchased by 18-21-year-olds. Silencers are now easier to acquire; same with large- capacity magazines. Funding for community violence prevention measures and school-based mental health resources have been cut or eliminated. This list goes on and on.
Keep this in mind on Election Day.
