Senate Whip Warns Democrats Are Heading “Far, Far Left” Ahead of Midterms

Dallas, Texas – At the Republican National Committee’s mid‑term convention in Dallas, Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R‑Wyo.) warned that the Democratic Party’s new direction is “far, far left.” Speaking to Fox News Digital, Barrasso said Republicans must rally against what he sees as a progressive wave that is reshaping the party’s future.

“I’m surprised how the energy of the Democrat Party has moved to the far, far left,” Barrasso told the network. “Those are the people that are driving the party. And the concern that I have, talking to other colleagues in the Senate, is that they’ll say that is the future of their party.” The U.S. senator added that the progressive candidates leading Democratic primaries are a “problem” for the country.

Barrasso singled out a handful of Democratic hopefuls, including Abdul El‑Sayed in Michigan, James Talarico in Texas, and Peggy Flanagan in Minnesota, who he says are “bucking expectations” and have become the face of the party’s shift. “We cannot allow that to become the future of our country,” he said. “That’s why we need to win all of these races.”

The remarks come as the Republican Party is pushing a Trump‑oriented agenda, even though former President Donald Trump’s name is absent from the ballot. The convention’s theme has been to galvanize the former president’s base for the November elections and to protect Republican incumbents and prospects who can advance his priorities. Barrasso also noted concerns about the ongoing “war in Iran” and the economic strain on voters.

While the RNC’s message was to focus on the Trump agenda, Democrats are already fielding strong candidates who have taken a more progressive stance. In the Democratic Party, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D‑NY) has been described as part of the old guard, but his office has not yet commented on the Republican criticism.

Republican officials have also highlighted the importance of securing high‑profile races. The convention’s schedule featured a segment on Texas, where Attorney General Ken Paxton’s re‑election is at stake and the state’s Senate seat is being contested by Talarico. The GOP has targeted the race to keep Texas firmly in the red.

As the midterm cycle approaches, the Senate’s top Republican voices are urging party unity and warning of a shifting political landscape. Whether the progressive surge will reshape the Democratic Party remains to be seen, but Barrasso’s comments underscore a growing concern among Republican leaders that the future of the country could be altered by the new generation of Democrats.
