Tiger Woods set for plea change hearing after DUI arrest following Florida rollover crash
Tiger Woods is set to appear at the Martin County Courthouse in Florida on Wednesday morning for a plea conference related to a DUI case stemming from a rollover crash in March on Jupiter Island. According to court records, the hearing was advanced from a previously scheduled September date after a notice was filed Tuesday, and a judge has already approved the release of Woods’ hospital records to prosecutors following the incident.
The crash occurred roughly 40 miles west of West Palm Beach. Martin County authorities responded to the scene, where an SUV registered to Woods was found lying on its driver’s side. An arrest affidavit filed at the time stated that Woods did not pass a field sobriety test and was found to have prescription painkillers in his pocket. He was also cited for careless driving. Woods initially entered not guilty pleas to misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence and refusing to submit to testing.
The case has been further complicated by serious injuries Woods sustained in a separate crash in February 2021, also involving his SUV outside Los Angeles. That accident left him with open fractures in his lower right leg; surgeons placed a rod in his tibia and inserted screws and pins in his foot and ankle. Woods was hospitalized for several weeks following the procedure. In the months since, he has spoken about focusing on personal recovery while remaining involved with golf.
On Sunday, Woods congratulated Scottie Scheffler on social media after the world No. 1 won the Tour Championship and secured his second FedEx Cup title, a result that also moved Scheffler past Woods on the PGA Tour’s career earnings list. Woods’ post on X read: “Three wins, five runner-ups and finishing the season No. 1. Those are some numbers to be proud of. Incredible consistency all season long. Congrats on a historic season, Scottie.”
Woods has been away from competition while managing his recovery, but he has continued to follow the game closely. The Wednesday hearing will provide an update on the legal proceedings as he navigates both the DUI case and his ongoing rehabilitation.
