The residents were not home and no civilians were injured, but three dogs died in the blaze. Firefighters responded to a structure fire at 301 King Hill Road shortly after 12 p.m. and found the home completely engulfed in flames, the marshal’s office said. Two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion, and Naples Fire Chief Justin Cox said they were treated and released at the scene. The response happened amid record-high temperatures Thursday afternoon, which [reached the upper 90s across](https://www.pressherald.com/2026/07/02/maine-communities-break-and-tie-daily-temperature-records-with-more-heat-on-tap-friday/) southern Maine. He said when his department arrived, the building was already completely on fire, so there wasn’t much for the crew to do, and they were also limited by heat and humidity.  The marshal’s office was unable to determine the cause of the fire because of the extensive damage to the structure.
