Both times, the Scots took the loss. A fast start and some clutch pitching ensured the third matchup, in the playoffs, would be a different story. Lily Regan homered, drove in five runs and pitched out of one Westbrook threat after another, and a three-run first inning gave the second-seeded Scots the lead for good as they advanced to the Class A South final with a 7-3 win Saturday over the third-seeded Blue Blazes. “Both teams knew there were no surprises coming,” coach Travis Demmons said. “We really have been playing better and better and better throughout the season. We just had to continue that.” Demmons said Bonny Eagle (15-3) will make its first regional final appearance since 1992. “A lot of the same girls who played on this field today were here last year when we got out in the second round of playoffs,” said second baseman Leah Storey, who reached base three times and scored two runs. “Going to the regional final is huge for us, showing everyone we’re here to stay.” Advertisement Bonny Eagle will face top-seeded Cheverus, which defeated fourth-seeded Gorham 10-0 in the other semifinal, in Tuesday’s Class A South title game at the University of Southern Maine. Scoring summary • The Scots started fast, with Madison Weeks (double), Regan (sacrifice fly) and Emily Ireland (single) driving in runs in the first inning to make it 3-0. They added two runs in the third when Regan homered to center, her first long ball at any level. “It was crazy. I did not think that was gone,” she said. “I knew that would help my team get this energy boost.” • Westbrook (14-4) chipped away at the lead when Avery Childs scored on an error in the fourth, Emma Boulette singled and scored on a Greta Krantz hit in the fifth, and Elyse Broad scored on a Boulette double in the sixth. But Bonny Eagle got insurance in the bottom of the sixth. With the bases loaded, Regan’s hard grounder down the third-base line hit a rock and skidded into left field, driving in Storey and Reese Bryant to make it 7-3. Buckling down • Before coming through with the bat, Regan stepped up for the Scots in the circle. Bella Hanson started and kept Westbrook off balance for two innings, but Emma Clukey, Broad and Boulette ripped consecutive singles to load the bases in the third. Advertisement Demmons brought in Regan, who got back-to-back strikeouts to preserve the 3-0 lead. “I was pretty nervous, but I knew I could do it if I just took a deep breath,” she said. “Don’t rush myself, because rushing yourself isn’t going to help. Take your time.” • The Blue Blazes kept fighting, but Regan kept putting out fires. In the fourth, Westbrook had two on with two out, but Regan coaxed a flyout. In the fifth, Boulette, Faith Stoddard and Krantz had consecutive singles, but Regan limited the damage with two strikeouts and a groundout. “Just trust your team behind you, and trust yourself when you’re pitching the ball,” Regan said. “That’s pretty much all you’ve got to do. Trust everyone all around you and trust yourself.” Falling short In their previous matchups, Westbrook got the hits it needed to build or extend leads. This time, clutch hits were more elusive, and the Blue Blazes left 11 on base while striking out eight times with runners in scoring position. “We had a lot of chances,” coach Brian Ross said. “We just couldn’t get the big hit today, which in a game like this, getting one (run), one, one, that’s tough to make a comeback.” Stat leaders • Westbrook: Emma Boulette (3 for 4, double, RBI, run), Elyse Broad (1 for 3, run), Greta Krantz (2 for 4, RBI) • Bonny Eagle: Lily Regan (4 2/3 innings, nine strikeouts; 2 for 3, home run, five RBI), Leah Storey (1 for 2, two runs), Madison Weeks (1 for 4, run, RBI), Emily Ireland (1 for 4, RBI) Copy the Story Link Tagged: [bonny eagle scots](https://www.pressherald.com/tag/bonny-eagle-scots/), [westbrook blue blazes](https://www.pressherald.com/tag/westbrook-blue-blazes/) [![](https://www.pressherald.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2016/11/20241203_bonifant_2.jpg?w=80)](https://www.pressherald.com/author/drew-bonifant) [Drew BonifantStaff Writer](https://www.pressherald.com/author/drew-bonifant) Drew Bonifant covers sports for the Press Herald, with beats in high school football, basketball and baseball.
