When turning on the television, people in Maine no doubt see two types of commercials running in a constant loop: ads for medication and ads touting the many accomplishments of Sen. Susan Collins. First, no irony at all — both the medication ads and the Susan Collins ads are paid for by the same profiteers of human suffering.

In those constant ads, we’re told Sen. Collins secured funding for Maine’s rural hospitals. If so, why do Maine’s rural hospitals continue to cut services? My neighbor was rushed to a rural hospital last winter only to be told he needed an ambulance ride to a larger hospital because they didn’t have the means to help him.

If Sen. Collins pushed through funding for body cams for ICE agents, why were no body cams in use when an ICE agent shot a man in the middle of a Biddeford street?

This is where the Collins campaign goes from claiming credit to shifting blame. This usually involves blaming Democrats for blocking Sen. Collins’ initiatives.

Again, this runs afoul of reality because Collins is a Republican and Republicans control the House, Senate, White House and the U.S. Supreme Court. They ram through atrocities like the “big, beautiful bill,” against Democratic opposition, without issue.

In one breath, Sen. Collins brags about her immense power to bring the earmarks and the pork home. In the next, everything is out of her hands. At one point do we stop buying these insults to our intelligence?
