Taylor Sheridan’s “The Madison” to Return in 2027, Production on Third Season Begins Next Year

Fans of the heartland‑drama “The Madison,” the latest project from “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan, can expect their next taste of Montana’s quiet grit next year. The show, which stars veteran actors Kurt Russell and Michelle Pfeiffer, wrapped up its first season on March 21, 2026, and will launch season 2 in early 2027, with production on season 3 already underway.

A Different Kind of Sheridan

Sheridan’s new series departs from the high‑octane violence that defined “Yellowstone.” Instead, it follows a family forced to flee New York City after a devastating event, seeking refuge in rural Montana. The narrative has been praised for its emotional depth, with many reviewers describing it as an “uplifting” counterpoint to Sheridan’s previous work.

Despite its critical acclaim, “The Madison” has faced a lackluster Emmy reception, with the show and its companion series “Landman” both snubbed last year. Industry insiders, however, continue to regard Sheridan as a “six‑time champion” of television, suggesting that the lack of awards may not deter his ambitious plans.

Filming Ahead of the Premiere

A unique element of the series’ production schedule is that season 2 was filmed before the first season even aired. Lead actress Danielle Vasinova, who plays Kestrel Harris, told US Weekly that this approach gave the cast a chance to work “before anyone had seen the first season.” “It was mostly nice to shoot a second season before anyone had seen the first season, just because I think sometimes the show comes out and the vibes change on set because everyone’s kind of like the thing you’re making has been consumed,” she said. “So, having made the second now, we’re going back to make the third at the beginning of next year.”

Co‑star Kevin Zegers echoed that sentiment. “It was nice to shoot a second season before anyone had seen the first season… Having made the second now, we’re going back to make the third at the beginning of next year,” he added.

Release Timeline

According to Vasinova, the second season will premiere “top of 2027,” and the third will be filmed at the same time, with a release slated for late 2027 or early 2028. “I got cast in the show back in 2024, and our first season came out in 2026, and then season two is going to come out top of 2027. And we’ll be back shooting season three for top of 2027 as well, so stay tuned,” she told the magazine.

While the exact premiere dates remain unannounced, the production schedule gives viewers a clear picture of when to expect the next installments. The decision to film ahead of the airing dates was made strategically to preserve the creative momentum and keep the on‑set energy high, according to the actors.

What It Means for Fans

The extended waiting period has not dampened enthusiasm. “The Madison” has garnered a dedicated fan base that appreciates Sheridan’s focus on character over spectacle. The show’s departure from the action‑heavy “Yellowstone” formula has resonated with viewers seeking more nuanced storytelling.

As the production moves forward, fans can anticipate a continuation of the series’ emotional narrative arc, with a focus on the family’s integration into Montana’s rural landscape and the challenges that accompany a new beginning.

Looking Ahead

While the future beyond season 3 remains uncertain, Sheridan’s track record of building successful television franchises suggests that additional seasons are a distinct possibility. Whether the show will continue to explore the family’s journey or shift focus to new characters remains to be seen, but the groundwork laid in the first three seasons positions “The Madison” as a notable entry in Sheridan’s expanding repertoire.

For now, the series will likely deliver its next chapter in early 2027, with the third season following shortly after. Fans are encouraged to keep an eye on official announcements and to stay tuned for further updates from the production team.
