Virginia Shaffer will present “Tide to Table,” an insightful journey into the world of oysters with a focus on modern growing practices and emerging trends in oyster appreciation at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, in the Community Room of the Rockland Public Library.

Shaffer is the owner and founder of Lady Oyster Tours & Tastings in Bath and author of the culinary memoir “Oyster Society: Adventures with the Shellfishly Motivated” (Islandport Press). Prior to launching her culinary tour business, she spent over 10 years documenting the stories of oyster farms, raw bars, oyster tourism and industry enthusiasts across North America.

Shaffer is a food writer and oyster sommelier. Her business, Lady Oyster Tours & Tastings, is Maine’s first oyster culinary tour company and was globally awarded “Best Rural Culinary Heritage Experience” in 2025 by the World Food Travel Association.

Shaffer has written about shellfish for over 10 years and has been featured on NPR, Boston Chronicle and in publications such as Edible, Good Grit, My Maine, Post and Courier, and more. She holds a certificate in gastronomic tourism from Le Cordon Bleu Paris and a B.A. in international studies from American University. She lives in Bath with her husband, Warwick, two loyal collies and a cat.
