Susan Collins is a friend to her constituents | Letter
100%

I was recently visiting an antiques shop in Bath. The owner and I got to chatting. I mentioned that I had worked for the post office a few years prior. His house was one I delivered to. That’s when he shared a great story about Sen. Susan Collins.

He said he was having problems with his mail delivery. USPS was experiencing hiring freezes and leadership shifts at the time. He called the post office but the issue was not resolved. Finally, he called Sen. Collins and asked for her help.

A few days later the CS lead called him, promising to handle the issue personally. The staffer gave him his direct line and said, “If you have any issues, please call me and I’ll handle it.” He hasn’t had a problem with his mail since.

I’ve heard many stories similar to this around town. I think these experiences demonstrate how Sen. Collins cares about her constituents on a personal level. Mainers feel confident calling her and saying, “I have a problem, can you help?” If she can, she will. She follows through without hesitation.

She acts as if serving Mainers is her passion and purpose, because it is. She’s connected with her constituents through a lifetime of living in Maine and serving Mainers in the Senate, but she values and treats even those she does not know well like friends.
