Several advocacy groups and elected officials have spoken out after a pair of former girlfriends of a man identified as Platner recounted behaviors they described as “intimidating and disturbing.” The women, who spoke publicly this week, said the conduct occurred during the time they were in relationships with Platner and that the pattern of behavior had left them feeling unsafe.

In a joint statement, the former girlfriends detailed a series of incidents they said had escalated over the years. They described actions ranging from aggressive surveillance of their personal lives to verbal intimidation that they said was intended to control and frighten them. “We found his actions intimidating and disturbing,” the women wrote, adding that the experiences had lasting effects on their sense of security.

The allegations quickly drew responses from local and statewide organizations. The Maine Women’s Resource Center issued a press release saying it “takes any report of intimate‑partner intimidation seriously and stands ready to provide support to those affected.” The state chapter of the National Organization for Women called for a thorough, independent review of the claims and emphasized the importance of believing survivors.

Political leaders also weighed in. State Senator Jane Doe said the accusations “highlight a pattern of behavior that has no place in our communities,” while Representative John Smith urged law‑enforcement agencies to examine the matter impartially. “We must ensure that those who speak out are heard and that appropriate action is taken if the allegations are substantiated,” Smith added.

Platner has not yet responded to requests for comment. In a brief text message to this newspaper, he said he was “unaware of any concerns” but indicated he would review the statements and respond at a later date.

The recent disclosures have sparked a broader conversation in the community about how similar allegations are handled and the resources available to survivors of intimidation. Local officials say they are monitoring the situation and are prepared to assist any additional individuals who come forward.
