State police investigating after man found dead near Sanford firepit
Maine State Police are investigating a man’s death after his body was found near a firepit in a Sanford backyard.
Sanford police responded to the residence on Twombley Road shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday, state police spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release Tuesday.
State police’s Major Crimes Unit, members of the Office of State Fire Marshal and Sanford police investigated at the scene throughout the day Thursday.
The man’s identity and his cause and manner of death are still pending, Moss said. His body was taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy.
The investigation is ongoing, but Moss said there is no danger to the public.
