State police investigate suspicious package at Maine Revenue Services building
A suspicious package was opened inside the Maine Revenue Services building in Augusta on Wednesday, prompting an investigation by Maine State Police.
Capital Police responded to the report of the package just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.
The person who handled the package had moved it outside and contacted authorities, Moss said. Capitol Police requested assistance from the Maine State Police Bomb Squad.
The building was evacuated out of an abundance of caution, Moss said, but investigators ultimately determined there were no explosives or biological hazards.
No injuries were reported. The Augusta Fire Department and 11th Army National Guard Civil Support Team assisted in the response.
The incident remains under investigation.
