Side Door Coffeehouse welcomes Castlebay duo

Castlebay to Headline Side Door Coffeehouse in Brunswick
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick will host the next installment of its popular Side Door Coffeehouse on Friday, June 12, featuring a headline performance by the folk duo Castlebay. Comprised of Julia Lane and Fred Gosbee, the pair will take the stage from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., following an open mic session that begins at 7 p.m. with signups starting at 6:45 p.m.
The Side Door Coffeehouse serves as a vibrant community hub, offering a relaxed setting for local musicians—both professional and amateur—to showcase their talents. Organized by church volunteers, the event fosters connection and conversation among Midcoast residents and visitors, held on the second Friday of each month except August. Admission is $12 for adults, with free entry for children 17 and under.
Castlebay, a duo with deep roots in traditional music, has been captivating audiences since 1986. Lane and Gosbee draw on their lifelong passion for research and performance, blending Maine’s nautical heritage with the folk traditions of the British Isles. Their shows are known for finely crafted ballads that evoke Maine’s history, characters, and coastal life, supported by a rich arrangement of Celtic harp, 12-string guitar, fiddle, and woodwinds. The result is a journey through time and across the Atlantic, delivered with warmth and authenticity.
This performance promises an evening of storytelling and song that celebrates the region’s cultural legacy, all within the intimate confines of the church’s coffeehouse series. Music enthusiasts and community members alike are invited to enjoy a night of local artistry in a welcoming atmosphere.
