September Brings Wave of Community Events to Midcoast Maine

September may mark the transition from summer to fall, but in the Brunswick and Bath region, the calendar remains packed with festivals, celebrations, and community gatherings that make it clear the season isn't ready to end just yet.

The month reaches its peak on September 12, when three major events will draw residents and visitors alike to different corners of the area.

Leading the day's festivities is the Brunswick Downtown Association's annual Community BBQ, running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Brunswick Mall. The free event features burgers, hot dogs, bouncy houses, and face painting for children, along with opportunities to connect with local nonprofits. A ceremony honoring first responders will kick off the proceedings at 10 a.m. Organizers note that hundreds of families attend each year to celebrate community service and the volunteers who contribute to the region. This year's event will also include a pizza eating contest.

"That afternoon, attention shifts to Brunswick Landing for the annual Block Party, scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. The celebration was born several years ago as the first major public event at the former Naval Air Station property, and it has since become a staple for those invested in the area's growth. Morning Glory Natural Foods will showcase its new location on the landing, joining original block party organizers Wild Oats Bakery & Deli and Flight Deck Brewing as co-hosts. The event promises artists, live music, family activities, and food and beverages, with 10 percent of proceeds benefiting the Brunswick Community Education Foundation.

Beer enthusiasts will want to mark their calendars for September 14, when the Maine Maritime Museum hosts its annual Pints on the Pier tasting event from 4 to 7 p.m. The festival features selections from more than a dozen regional breweries including Bath Ale Works, Bissell Brothers, Maine Beer Company, and Mast Landing Brewing Company. cidery and spirits options will also be available. Food vendors include K-Pop Kimbap, Black Salt, Flight Deck Pizza, Maine Oyster Company, and Zellie's Ice Cream. Tickets for the event are $47 in advance for adults, with museum members receiving a 20 percent discount and priority entrance. VIP tickets at $67 include early entry at 3:30 p.m. and a complimentary gift. Day-of pricing rises to $56, while a non-alcohol admission option costs $22. All ticket levels include samples and a commemorative tasting glass.

Before the busy weekend arrives, the Bath Area Family Y will open its newly renovated headquarters to the public on September 9 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The event at 303 Centre Street celebrates the completion of the Haggett Family Early Learning Center and other facility upgrades. Staff members say the renovations reflect the organization's commitment to maintaining safe and engaging spaces for children and families.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 16 at 10 a.m. will mark the opening of BProactive Health Wellness Center at 2 Admiral Fitch Drive on Brunswick Landing. The facility offers services including cryochambers, infrared saunas, red light immersion therapy, and a hydro lounge. Practice Manager Patrick Kimball noted that founders Dr. Jose Ventura and Annah Ventura built the center to provide wellness options that complement traditional medicine. The public is invited to attend the celebration and tour the space.
